Turkey has declared an arrangement with Ukraine, Russia and the UN pointed toward continuing Ukrainian grain trades hindered by Russia, raising possibilities for a finish to a standoff that has exposed millions with the risk of starvation.

Turkey’s defence ministor, Hulusi Akar, said on Wednesday that the arrangement would be signed when the parties meet again one week from now and would incorporate joint controls for checking grains in ports and Turkey reassuring the security of Black Sea trade courses for Ukrainian grain.

Turkey would likewise set up a coordination centre with Ukraine, Russia and the UN for grain trades, Akar said. Volodymyr Zelenskiy’s chief of staff, Andriy Yermak, wrote on Twitter: “Its task will be to carry out general monitoring and coordination of safe navigation in the Black Sea.”
